Summer’s Twilight (in development)

Summer’s Twilight is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The piece tells the story of the four lovers, Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, as their romantic troubles lead them out into the forest, where the fairy, Puck, and his king, Oberon, wait ready to meddle.

Arabian Nights (2008)

Arabian Nights, by Mary Zimmerman, is a richly musical play that demands a lot of music be written for each production. I wrote the music and was music director in summer 2008 for the production mounted by Theatre Hopkins, the second oldest theatre in Baltimore.

Twelfth Night (2008)

Also in summer 2008, I wrote the songs for the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival’s production of Twelfth Night. The director, Laura Hackman, set the play in New Orleans, so I got to write, among other things, a straight-up twelve-bar blues. It was great fun and a great show.

Some Ado (2005 rev. 2006)

Originally produced at the Theatre Project in Baltimore and then revised for a film version I directed in 2006, Some Ado is an abbreviated adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. It was a testing ground for a lot of the concepts developed more fully in Summer’s Twilight.

Fresh Bread (2005)

Fresh Bread is a chamber opera scene adapted from a story of the same name by Elizabeth Olney. The story tells the story of what happens to a man’s mother and husband after he’s killed for being gay. The opera version contains a quote from the gospel of John.
