I’ve had an ongoing question about how to present large audio files on this site. Right now I’ve got small ones hosted myself that play as simple streaming files. For larger files, easier sharing, and on the general principle that you should embed media, not host it, I’m trying out SoundCloud today. They seem pretty good for free, but the paid plans have more customizable skins for the player widget, etc.

Here’s my first test, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra’s reading of my orchestra piece, The Burial of the Dead. It’s a wordless setting of the first section of T.S. Eliot’s poem, The Waste Land; every syllable is turned into a note, and as the different characters speak, different instruments play their lines. The Orchestra did a great job, though this is a reading and not a proper recording, so there are some bumps along the way. Let me know what you think of the player, the embedding, Sound Cloud overall, and, of course, the piece!
